Well, This creature spawned off one of my lecture note doodles (see [link] ) It apparently was somekinda.... Dragon fox like thingie.

Anyway, Was also thinking that this could become a great but rather random critter in 's space RPG. Bit of a change from me from just creating more and more races, I was thinking that some random chaos causing creature like this may fit well in that world.

Also these thing wander portals, so they can appear just bout in any dimension or world.

Yes, these things are cute but avoid getting bitten by these things. VERY nasty effects..... though wonder who is crazy enough to actually WANT to get bitten by one of these things?

Detailed Species information: Drakenfox.


Description

These are very intelligent and highly agile small creatures that look like a cross between a dragon and a fox. They are known to wander in portals between space and dimensions, but sometimes pop out of that realm to wander around in real space. Little is known of their normal habitats or their natural lifestyles due to their unusual and wide ranging habitats.

However it is known that these creatures often hitch-hike on large spaceships that travel through subspace or hyperspace (or wormholes). They will apparently suddenly appear in the ship in a more secluded corner through a minature portal (which closes rapidly behind them) and will wander around the ship. It is assumed that they do so mainly to look for food or to rest, but the exact reason(s) are still unknown.

Reasons for the above are that they are commonly found searching for food in the ships they appear in. They are also commonly found in abandoned spaceships or installations scavenging for food or other items. Especially those that are set adrift in hyperspace (or warp space)

They are known to have many different fur colourations in many different colour combinations. Most frequently seen are those shown above.

Diet

Drakenfoxes apparently have a very efficient digestive system. This, coupled with the fact that they are highly resistant to toxic chemicals and poisons, means that they are capable of eating almost any materials. They have deceptively strong teeth and jaws (Teeth strength is comparable with diamonds) which means that they can easily chew up anything they eat.

They have a preference for organic foods and eat anything from rats to cockroaches.... basically any animal that is bite-sized (or slightly larger than that) for them. Their venomous bite is used to quickly kill their victim and begin rapid conversion of the prey's nutrients.

However, they are also well known to eat normal food. Sometimes raiding food stores for that. They are also not above begging for food scraps from others that are eating.

Another interesting point is that they are fully capable of eating even metals and plastics. They sometimes become a nuisance to spaceships when they nibble away wires, control buttons or tools that are left unattended. It is also notable that they have a tendency of nibbling brightly coloured objects (like buttons and some wires). _{side note, sometimes they work in pairs when there's someone working. One will sit and stare at the worker and get his attention while the other will steal the unattended tools. Workers should take note of this}

Language

Drakenfoxes appear to have a very complicated language made of a mixture of actions, flashes as well as a variety of sounds. They are capable of mimicing simple sounds they hear (like telephone ringing sounds) and roughly understand what it is for.

Known displays are:

<single chirp>: This is to get attention from others
<gowl>: Anger or warning
<lick or purring>: Affection, thanks or friendship
<hiss>: Threat
<Raspy hiss with blared fangs>: Bite threat
"Mreuuuu....": Please(?), (Different tones seem to mean anything from from sadness to begging or just being cute.)
<squeek>: Surprise

_{Also do note that venom from their fangs is only injected if they bite with fangs raised. It's washed from the creature's mouth down it's throat shorty after, so it's perfectly safe to be licked by one of these creatures.}

Abilities

These creatures are known to be mildly psychic. They can sense emotions and (to a limited degree) motives, however are incapable of using it to communicate with others (With the possible exception of each other).

Drakenfoxes are also known to have a limited levitation ability and can levitate for a short time (maximum 10 minutes). They can also emit a cloud of ion dust once every few days that jams sensors and obscures them from view.

They are also very venomous (see warning in picture)

Lastly, they are known to open small portals and travel between places through warp space by them. Exactly how they do it and how they survive in warp space is unknown. It apparently requires a large store of energy by the creature and it can only use this ability approximately once every week o

Behaviour

They are very shy creatures in general, however, they can become very friendly if treated nicely. It is also a known fact that they will recognise friendlier creatures and are generally less shy amongst them. Particularly if they are received kindly.

If threatened, they will always attempt to run first. If that fails, they will use either emit an ion dust cloud or levitate to escape.

If cornered, they are known to use a mental spike from their psychic abilities that causes a headache in the victim. Failure normally results in them hissing and threatening with their claws.

They only bite as a last resort. The immediate burning pain and hallucinations caused by the bite is enough to stop almost any assailant.

Unfortunately, the easiest way to get bitten is to accidentally step on them......

Bite victim abilities

These are a list of abilities that are gained a month after being bitten:

First bite: Ability to shapeshift into a were-Derkenfox (anthro form)

Second bite: Easier to shapeshift. Increased reflexes. Starts craving for eating wires and metal stuff. (although often get sick afterwards)

Third bite: Shapeshifts into full Drakenfox. Gains improved digestion capability and teeth become reinforced. Gains minor teliphatic ability when shapechanged.

Fourth bite: Very easy to shapeshift, memoury loss and starts behaving and eating like a drakenfox. Gains levitaiton

Fifth bite: Permanently becomes a Drakenfox. Fully behaves like one and is almost indistinguishable from a natural one except for hair and eye colour (which remains the same). Gains all Drakenfox abilities and venom and is left with only fragments of original memory.
