XV 88-2 Broadside Battlesuit by Snowfyre XV 88-2 Broadside Battlesuit by Snowfyre
So what have I been spending the past few days painting after ICON ?

Well, This.
My SECOND painted Forgeworld model. And my first useful one, the Xv 88-2 Tau "Broadside" battlesuit.
So well
Now I got a full squad of 3.
So all I need for them is to paint up a shield drone and repaint another shield drone.
and I'm done with them.

Yes, My tau army is well,
the 125th "Skychasers" Urban Combat Evaluation Unit.

That's why my entire army's colour scheme is urban camouflage. :XD:

Though you may notice that the cam scheme seems to have been updated slightly. Using a more striped appearance.
Think it looks nicer and neater than the older colours..

Posted cause some of my watchers recently were asking me to post some tau units.

_______________________________________

Little background?
Well, these are heavy battlesuits that forgo the usual jetpack system to free up space to mount twin-linked Railguns, which are one of the most powerful weapons in the tau arsenal.

These battlesuits are deployed to bring down the most powerful units that the enemy can possibly field.

They also mount secondary weapon systems. In this case the Smart missile system.

The XV 88-2 is a variant of the original broadside design (which was effectively a modified XV 8 crisis suit)
Original design (slight conversion) See [link]

The XV 88-2 in the 125th CEU is designated "Broadside Leader 1" and the team leader of a squad of 3 Broadside battlesuits that's called the "Fist of Ruk"

Sweet man, really like the scheme. I was also looking into something other than the typical tau camo. Thinking real digital ACU camo for certain sections but that would also kill my brush and take forever.

Post more tau stuff please. :)

Thanks. :)
This is a more traditional camo style I suppose, striped. not hard to do just kills your brush.

More tau? hmm perhaps. currently on a bug-painting spree with tyranids.

Brilliant camo. :+fav: Makes me want to have another go at my lacking paint job... Y.Y Did you free hand the stripes? I've been using painter's tape to try any 'stencil' the strips. Haven't streamlined the process yet... -Kurocyn

very unique unit. Seems as though they can be Titan killers, if there are enough of them and the terrain is to their advantage.

Well, the Tau lack superheavy tanks and titans of their own so in the absence of air-cover this is kinda what they have to use to knock out enemy superheavies. Though that said, they do have a battle formation in the apocalypse 2 imperial armour book that is a broadside formation.

and they're pretty darn good at knocking out tanks at extreme ranges by themselves. That's kinda what they're supposed to do anyway.

at first i thought... eww looks ugly! But i was smart enough to click for bigger picture and it's really cool. That's a camouflage that actually does what it's supposed to do. It distrects you so bad you can't really focus or determine what is what. And of course it's really good painted. great job!

Well, this is actually painted based on real-life type of camouflage types. Stripes is one of the traditional camo styles.

I've always liked the Tau Battlesuits, even as a Marine player. There is just something awesome about them. Especially the XV-88, for it's TL Railguns, there's something intimidating, about imagining those giant Super Heavy Killers, being lowered into firing position, while the Firewarrior inside, is watching all the lock-on Cross-hairs lining up with a markerlight, to confirm maximum accuracy. And it's on something that's relatively cheap, and yet, extremely effective heavy support choices in the game! But the -2 variant, oh do I ever agree with you, that switching the weapon positioning around, is just as cool, if not cooler.

I really like the Urban "Tiger Stripe" like camouflage you got going with this. It very well detailed, and yet, it still somehow fits with the Tau's style of camouflage.

Blasting something to little bitty bitz with the strongest long-ranged anti-tank weapon there is is fun.

Thanks much. decided for my tau army to go for a more realistic camo style.

Though this model actually broke when I collided into a cyclist later. I have yet to repair it. Need to do it someday

As for how I do it, it's very simple actually.
Black basecoat spray (optional, but makes paint last longer) --> Paint armor in adeptus gray --> Wash with bedap black for shading --> paint stripes and highlight edges in fortress grey --> Paint recesses, groves and second stripes in chaos black.

Just note it will kill your detail brush. It is not hard at all and only needs 4 colours.

Hope it helps. lemme know how you go with it.
